FROM WORRIED TO WELL:
How disconnection is damaging our kids, and how deeper relationships can foster well-being, activate achievement, and build a better world
Presented by: Dr. David Trantner
On behalf of Golden Hills School Division
Despite our best efforts, many young people are lonelier, more anxious, and less happy. They have more behavioural struggles at school, require greater academic accommodations, and are less intrinsically motivated. They are more apt to take an “us versus them” approach to the world, are taking longer to grow up, and are less prepared for the rigours of college and university. Join Dr. David Tranter to examine how, despite living in a connected world, our young people are more disconnected from others, and their own internal resources, than ever before. Learn how our “concerted cultivation” approach to parenting and education often backfires, and what we can do instead to help all young people truly thrive in the 21st century.
Dr. David Tranter has been teaching and working in mental health, well-being, and education for over 30 years. As a researcher and professor, he works widely with educators to support students at all grade levels to reach their highest potential. He is a dynamic, thought-provoking, and entertaining speaker, who has challenged educators across the country to think differently about their role, and to understand the needs of students on a deeper level. He is the co-creator of the Relationship-Based Approach to Education, a pedagogical framework that promotes both student well-being and academic achievement.
